Meet Our Rescue Crew
Every rescue has a story. Meet the crew who turned second chances into our reason why. 🐾❤️
Mella
Mella's story didn't begin with LC & Friends. It began in Detroit.
Before she became my best friend, Mella was found in a dumpster in Detroit after reportedly being used for breeding. Her beginning was something no animal should ever have to experience.
But that wasn't going to be the end of her story.
Mella came into my life in 2021, and from that moment forward, she would never have to wonder whether she was safe or loved again. She became my family, my best friend, and eventually one of the biggest inspirations behind LC & Friends – Scales & Fur Unite.
Not long after I brought Mella home, she was diagnosed with mast cell tumors. We do everything we can to keep her happy, comfortable, and healthy, making sure she gets all the love and care she deserves.
Despite everything she experienced before finding her forever home, Mella is incredibly gentle and loving. She has shared her home with rescued cats, welcomed other animals into our lives, and helped me show people a side of pit bulls that is too often overlooked.
Mella is not just a dog on a shirt or a character in a coloring book. She's real. Her story is real.
The photos and videos throughout our social media show the real Mella and the life she has today, along with Gucci, Batman, Stormy, Buffy, and our growing scales-and-fur family.
LC & Friends was created to share stories like hers, advocate for animals who don't have a voice, encourage rescue and adoption, and support people in our community doing hands-on animal rescue and TNR.
Mella's beginning may have been heartbreaking, but it doesn't define her. Her second chance does. 🐾❤️
Gucci
Gucci's story is one that still leaves me with so many questions.
Gucci was microchipped through Detroit Animal Care and Control (DACC), but somehow he ended up miles away in Taylor, Michigan, living among a colony of feral cats outside a local business.
How he traveled from Detroit all the way to Taylor, how long he had been outside, and everything he experienced along the way are parts of his story we'll probably never know.
But one thing was clear — Gucci didn't belong out there.
He stood out from the feral cats because he wanted human attention. This sweet orange boy was looking for someone to notice him and give him another chance.
That's when our lives crossed.
Gucci came home with me in 2019 and became my first rescue baby and the beginning of a family I never could have imagined at the time.
Years later, Gucci is no longer the cat trying to survive outside a business. He's the spoiled orange boy of the house, surrounded by his furry brothers and sisters and loved beyond words.
His story is also an important reminder of why microchipping, keeping registration information current, TNR, and paying attention to community cats matter. Sometimes the friendly cat sitting among a feral colony has an entire story that no one knows.
Gucci helped start mine.
Before Mella, Batman, Stormy, Buffy and all the others who would eventually become part of LC & Friends, there was an orange cat who somehow made his way from Detroit to Taylor.
His name was Gucci — and he found his way home. 🧡🐾
Batman
Batman's story started outside my dad's house, where he was found all alone, crying for help.
My dad kept seeing this little black kitten hiding in the bushes. Whenever anyone tried to get close, Batman would practically fly out of the bushes and disappear. He was scared, alone, and surviving the only way he knew how.
We knew we couldn't leave him out there.
We reached out for help and had a rescue come out to safely get him. Once Batman was finally rescued, we discovered there was much more going on than we originally realized.
One of his front paws had suffered a traumatic injury. We will never know exactly what happened to him while he was outside, but the injury left lasting damage to his leg.
Batman didn't let that stop him.
He adapted. He learned how to move through life differently. And the terrified little kitten who once flew out of the bushes whenever someone approached eventually learned that people could mean safety, food, warmth, and love.
Today, Batman is part of our family and one of the real rescue stories behind LC & Friends.
He's also incredibly close with Mella. Seeing a rescued pit bull and a little injured black cat become such good friends is one of my favorite reminders that animals don't care about labels or appearances. They just know love.
Batman isn't defined by the injury to his paw. He's a survivor. He's family. And he's proof that an animal who starts life scared and alone can become one of the most loving members of your home when someone gives them a chance.
From crying alone outside my dad's house to becoming part of LC & Friends...
Batman was worth saving. 🖤🐾
Stormy
Stormy's story started at Friends for Animals of Metro Detroit (FAMD), where this tiny little kitten was waiting for her chance.
I decided I was going to foster her.
Well... that lasted about two seconds. 😂
The moment Stormy walked into our house, there was absolutely no hesitation. This tiny eight-week-old kitten pranced right up to Mella like she owned the place. No fear. No wondering whether she belonged. She basically walked in, looked at our big pit bull, and decided, "Yep, this is my house now." 😂
And honestly? She was right.
What was supposed to be a temporary foster quickly became a forever family. Stormy fit in like she had always been meant to be here, joining Mella, Gucci, and Batman and becoming another piece of the family that would eventually become LC & Friends – Scales & Fur Unite.
She has been our little boujie princess ever since. 👑🐱
Stormy's story is also one of the reasons I believe so strongly in fostering. Opening your home to an animal gives them a safe place while also creating space for shelters and rescues to help another animal in need.
Of course, sometimes fostering doesn't exactly go according to plan...
Stormy came from FAMD as my foster kitten. She walked through the door, pranced straight up to Mella like she owned the place, and approximately two seconds later, I was done for. ❤️
Some people call that a foster fail.
I call it one of the best failures I've ever had. 🐾
Buffy
Buffy's story began somewhere you probably wouldn't expect — a Sunoco gas station in Belleville, Michigan.
It was October 2022 when I came across this little tuxedo cat outside the gas station. She was living outside and needed someone to notice her.
And, of course, I did. ❤️
Buffy wasn't going to be another cat I drove past and wondered about later. Once I knew she needed help, I couldn't just leave her there.
So Buffy became another rescue. And eventually, another member of our family.
The funny thing is that you'd never know from Buffy's personality today that she once had to survive outside. She is incredibly friendly, affectionate, and has one of the funniest personalities of the entire crew.
One of her signature moves? The Buffy Flop. 😂
She'll dramatically flop herself over because belly rubs are apparently a requirement when you're Buffy.
She joined Gucci, Mella, Batman, and Stormy and became another piece of the family behind LC & Friends – Scales & Fur Unite.
Buffy's story is why I always pay attention to the animals around me. A cat hanging around a gas station, parking lot, business, or neighborhood isn't necessarily "just a stray."
Sometimes they're waiting for someone to stop. Sometimes that one stop changes everything.
Buffy went from living outside a gas station to having a home, a family, furry brothers and sisters, and more belly rubs than she could ever ask for.
All because somebody stopped. 🖤🤍🐾
